|PVMA Membership Benefits|
The PVMA publishes a monthly newsletter that provides members with valuable information: local animal news, community events, veterinary practice articles and classified ads. Much of the content is provided by members and allows members and community animal welfare organizations a place to make announcements and share experiences.
The PVMA is proud to offer more than 40+ CE credits each year. In an
effort to accommodate different schedules we offer several different
formats detailed below. We are constantly working to diversify our offerings and improve our program.
In addition, Tuesday/Wednesday CE lectures are held throughout the year. These lectures feature local
veterinary specialists and a wide variety of topics. The PVMA currently
offers 40+ credits of CE each year. We are currently working on adding several workshops and wetlabs during the winter months. Details to come!
Please visit our website calendar to see all of our CE offerings and events as well as those of other local and national organizations.
PVMA General Membership Meeting and Lectures
September through April, PVMA CE Lectures are held at Oregon Government building in the Lloyd district. These lectures are sponsored by the PVMA, with Portland area specialists providing the lectures. This is a great opportunity to get to know the fantastic specialists you often refer to. These lectures are a more casual opportunity to earn CE credits and meet and visit with colleagues. The lectures are free to PVMA Members.
In 2011, the PVMA added an Annual CE Symposium to our program. Every April/May, we offer a full day program one once focused topic. We have brought in national and local speakers offering different formats to include Veterinarians and Paraprofessionals. Registration is discounted for PVMA Members and participants in our Paraprofessional Support Program.
The PVMA commits a lot of time to public relations programs which
indirectly benefit every member. Educating the public is the first step
in helping pet owners realize how important it is to seek regular
veterinary care throughout a pet 's lifetime. A variety of programs help
elevate the entire profession in the minds of the public and bring new
clients to our member hospitals.
Community Service and Programs
The PVMA participates in many community events each year including the Oregon Humane Society's Doggie Dash and bi-annual career days for area high school students.
We also support the Coffee Creek Puppy Program/Canines Companions for Independence,
a non-profit organization that provides disabled individuals withe skilled services dogs. Member veterinary hospitals sponsor
all of the veterinary care for these dogs while they are trained by
inmates in a tremendous program at a local women's prison, Coffee Creek Correctional Facility.
The PVMA provides additional support throughout the year, as needed, by
donating supplies and additional support to the program.
By becoming a member you have an opportunity to represent the PVMA to city and state agencies, animal affiliated organizations and animal control agencies. The Executive Board represents the association in Oregon Veterinary Medical Examining Board work groups and is a founding organization of the Animal Shelter Alliance of Portland coalition, creating and solidifying positive relationships within the local animal welfare community.
