PVMA MembershipBenefitsPublications
Newsletter
The PVMA publishes a monthly newsletter that provides members with valuable information: local animal news, community events, veterinary practice articles and classified ads. Much of the content is provided by members and allows any member a place to make announcements and share experiences.
Directory Each year, a member directory is published and distributed to PVMA members. The directory lists all members and their hospitals, Agencies, Associations and affiliated organizations. In addition, members are also listed in categories such as by specialist, complementay medicine and special interests and procedures.
Continuing Education
September through May, General Membership Lectures are held at the Oregon Zoo, these meetings offer continuing education credits as well as an opportunity to meet and speak with colleagues. In addition, Tuesday CE lectures are held throughout the year at DoveLewis in the Community Room. These lectures feature local veterinary specialists and a wide variety of topics. The PVMA currently offers approximately 35 credits of CE each year. Public RelationsThe PVMA commits a lot of time to public relations programs which indirectly benefit every member. Educating the public is the first step in helping pet owners realize how important it is to seek regular veterinary care throughout a pet 's lifetime. A variety of programs help elevate the entire profession in the minds of the public and bring new clients to many a practice. Community ServiceThe PVMA participates in many community events each year including The Dogtoberfest and Doggie Dash. Two years ago, we resurrected the PVMA holiday drive which has grown tremendouly thanks to the 30 veterinary hospitals that participated in 2008 and has greatly impacted those who have received the donations. Donations and other support are also given to other local animal organizations regularly. We also support Canines Companions for Independence, a non-profit organzition that provides disabled individuals withe highly trained companion dogs. Nine member veterinary hospitals sponsor all of the veterinary care for these dogs while they are trained by inmates in a tremendous program at a local correctional facility. The PVMA provides additional support throughout the year, as needed, by donating supplies and additional support to the program.
RepresentationBy becoming a member you have an opportunity to represent the PVMA to city and state agencies, animal affiliated organizations and animal control agencies. Also, the Executive Board represents the association on the DoveLewis Executive Board, the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board and the Oregon Humane Society Executive Board, creating and solidifying positive relationships within the local animal community.
